Weekend road closures planned as Cambridge Road upgrade works progress
More details including maps and locations of closures can be viewed/downloaded here >>
Cambridge Road continues its transformation as part of the delivery of a new eastern gateway to St Neots, supporting and connecting the development of Wintringham with Loves Farm.
Early discussions with local communities about the development of Wintringham highlighted the importance of better connections with Loves Farm and St Neots and especially the need to ensure safe walking and cycling access to the stunning new primary school. Work is currently underway to install two toucan crossings, a bus layby and a new bus shelter with ‘real time travel information’. The scheme also includes a cycle way running along the northern edge of Wintringham, which was delivered earlier this year.
These works will involve two weekend road closures needed to install the two toucan crossings and carry out the associated road resurfacing. Signed diversions will be put in place during these weekends, as follows:
-
19/20 September: Cambridge Road will be closed between Loves Way and Belland Hill from 8am and 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. The diversion will see traffic leaving Love's Farm by Stone Hill roundabout heading for St Neots needing to travel via the A428, Barford Road and Cromwell Road.
-
26/27 September: Cambridge Road will be closed west of Dramsell Rise from 8am and 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Vehicles leaving Love's Farm for St Neots will need to go via A428, Barford Road and Cromwell Road.
Rebecca Britton, communities and partnerships for Urban&Civic said: “The team has carefully planned these works to cause as little disruption as possible to local residents and road users, but we apologise for any inconvenience they cause. The work will ensure significant cycle and walking links between Love's Farm and Wintringham, which will connect with both the first primary school and be part of connecting the green links and parks that enable the wider green infrastructure plans, which are an important part of the Wintringham vision.”
The Toucans - named after the provision they create for both cyclists and pedestrians, which “two can” use - will be 4m across and also link to the enhanced bus stops being installed.
The work will also have a noise impact for a couple of hours on the Saturday mornings of 19 and 26 September, while a planer removes the existing road surface to prepare for the new installation. After and in between these works, the works will revert back to traffic light management until mid-November.
The work is being carried out by J Breheny Civil Engineering, who have been working extensively with Urban&Civic through the early set up of the Wintringham development. If you have queries or concerns about the road works underway, please contact Breheny’s Head Office on 01449 720282.
