Great Get Together 2019
The Great Get Together is a national celebration of community, inspired by Jo Cox MP and her belief that, “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.” There are thousands of events taking place up and down the country, and once again we’ll be getting involved on Love’s Farm.
After our inaugural event in 2017 on Station Square and last year’s sports-themed event on the Round House school field, this year we are showcasing some of the community activities that happen throughout the year on Love’s Farm.
Love’s Farm Quiz
Friday 21 June, 7:30pm - 10pm
The weekend starts with our monthly Love’s Farm Quiz (moving from its regular slot on the last Friday of the month). Expect lots of random rounds, plenty of laughs and a great opportunity to meet fellow residents.
Lazy Breakfast
Saturday 22 June, 9 - 11am
The Love’s Farm House volunteers will be serving up bacon butties, fresh pastries, proper coffee, speciality teas, hot chocolates and cold drinks at the Lazy Breakfast café. We’re hoping for good weather so we can open up the garden, too. If you’ve never joined us for breakfast on a Saturday morning, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
SMART Day
Saturday 22 June, 11am and 2pm
Once you’ve filled up on breakfast, join Helene and the gang for a bit of SMART litter picking. All equipment is provided, and it’s a strangely therapeutic experience for all ages. Meet at the Pirate Ship at 11am or 2pm.
Community Barbecue and International Food Fair
Saturday 22 June, 4:30pm - late
On Saturday afternoon we’ll be opening up Love’s Farm House for a Community Barbecue. We’re hoping to include a few special culinary treats from around the world, and something pleasing for your ears too. Bring your family, invite your neighbours and don’t make any plans for the rest of the day.
Love’s Farm Massive Yard Sale
Sunday 23 June, 10am to 2pm
If you’ve had a clear out and can't be bothered to do a car boot, or you’ve been putting off a clear out since moving house, this event is for you. Have a stall in your garden or car parking space. Register your house and we’ll make a map and list of all houses taking part. Shoppers, come back here to see the map of people taking part.
Meet Your Street
Sunday 23 June, 3pm
To complete our weekend of community events, at exactly 3pm on Sunday 23 June we’re encouraging everyone on Love’s Farm to step out of their front door to Meet Your Street. Whether you’re best friends with your neighbours or you’ve never met them, this is your chance to throw caution to the wind, step outside and see what happens. Feel free to bring something to share — a drink, box of chocolates, football, hula hoop, pet terrapin... or just turn up and say “hello” to whoever is there. Or just stare at an empty street and go back inside again. Either way, we hope it’ll be a bit of a giggle.
If your street has a Facebook group, put it to good use by rallying the troops beforehand. Please share photos of your street gatherings at www.facebook.com/ourlovesfarm
