Northern Access Closure 

In early August Cambridgeshire County Council closed the northern access to Love’s Farm to all vehicles - including emergency services - by placing a concrete barricade across the road.

Rising bollards in Cambridgeshire are being phased out as the technology is aging and they are becoming increasingly expensive to maintain. Given that local bus services do not use the bus gate into Love's Farm, the County Council are consulting on plans to permanently close the route, except for pedestrians and cyclists.

Concerned residents raised the issue of lack of emergency access to the north of the estate at a recent meeting with Cambs County Council Highways. Highlighting the concern that a third of the estate would be stranded should there be an accident on Great High Ground, coupled with increased response times by emergency services, Highways have agreed to replace the concrete block and rising bollard with a manual bollard with a combination lock which could be used by emergency vehicles.

The council have promised to use the consultation as an opportunity to consider all possible options for the future of the northern access and so we encourage all residents to send in their views.
